Amatista Amazon CruiseAmatista - 4 Day/ 3 Night Itinerary

DAY 1 - Tuesday - Fly Lima to Iquitos on LAN 2374 (early morning flight). Greeting at the airport and travel 1.5 hours by bus to the town of Nauta to board the Amatista and begin your adventure. You will be shown to your comfortable cabin and followed by lunch. Your guides will provide an orientation to the boat and the excursions as the Amatista begins sailing up the Marañon River. Mid-afternoon we arrive at the Amazon Natural Park, a private reserve, and board canoes to travel to Laguna Encantada (Enchanted Lagoon) for an opportunity to view wildlife such as monkeys, iguanas and a number of bird species. The guides will tell you about these animals and the rainforest system they inhabit. Return to the Amatista for a musical presentation followed by dinner. (Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 2 - Wednesday - Begin the day with an early morning bird watching excursion up Pampa Creek with a chance of spotting monkeys, sloths and other wildlife. Return to the Amatista for breakfast. After breakfast we take a hike to a canopy walkway to explore the plant and animal life above the jungle floor. Here is an opportunity to see Poison Dart Frogs, Bromeliads and other plants difficult to see from below. Your guides will explain the medicinal uses of some plants. We will then arrive at La Maloka for a buffet lunch with live music. After lunch there will be a Shaman Ceremony where you will learn about some of the beliefs of the people of the rainforest. We will return to the Amatista for a brief rest followed by a small boat excursion to see an Amazon sunset and search for caiman, colorful frogs and other night life. We will take some time to listen to the many sounds of the rainforest before returning to the Amatista for dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 3 - Thursday - Early in the morning we will take an excursion into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve via Yanayaquillo River for an opportunity to spot fresh-water dolphins, monkeys, toucans, macaws and other wildlife. The Yanayaquillo River is a black-water river giving off stunning reflections of the trees and sky. A picnic breakfast will be provided as we stop at a secluded spot to enjoy the surroundings. We then return to the Amatista for a short geography lesson about the Amazon Basin followed by lunch. Later in the afternoon we will visit a Cocama Indian village to observe life along the river. The people of this village offer a warm and friendly welcome. Return to the Amatista for a musical reception and farewell dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4 - Friday - Breakfast on board before transferring to the bus in Nauta for the return to Iquitos and a brief city tour before returning to the airport for the mid-day flight to Lima, or being dropped off at your Iquitos hotel. (Breakfast)

DAY 1 - Sunday - Fly Lima to Iquitos on LAN 2380 (midday flight). Greeting at the airport and travel 1.5 hours by bus to the town of Nauta to board the Amatista and begin your adventure. You will be shown to your comfortable cabin and followed by lunch. Your guides will provide an orientation to the boat and the excursions as the Amatista begins sailing up the Marañon River. We will go by small boat to the junction of the Marañon and Ucayali rivers, where the Amazon River is formed. This will be a good opportunity to spot dolphins. Return to the Amatista for a musical presentation followed by dinner. (Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 2 - Monday - After breakfast you will enjoy an excursion to the Yanayacu Communal Reserve via the Yacapana River for an opportunity to observe wildlife such as macaws, three toe sloths, monkeys, pink dolphins and more. We will stop at a secluded spot for a picnic lunch among the lush, green rainforest. After lunch we will enter an oxbow lake for piranha fishing. During this time we can also observe a variety of birds such as toucans, trogons, parrots, flycatchers and more. Return to the Amatista for a siesta before heading out on a night excursion in the Corriente Lake to search for caiman, colorful frogs, owls and other rainforest nightlife. Dinner on board the Amatista. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 3 - Tuesday - We start with an early morning bird watching excursion on the Yarapa River to look for macaws, parrots, toucans and other species of birds. Return to the Amatista for breakfast. After breakfast we will go out on the small boats to Yucuruchi Creek to observe the giant water lilies (Victoria Amazonica) and an opportunity to spot Hoatzins, a pre-historic looking bird. Lunch on board the Amatista as we arrive at the Amazon Natural Park, a private reserve. Here we will go by canoe to Laguna Encantada (Enchanted Lagoon) for an opportunity to view wildlife such as monkeys, iguanas and a number of bird species.
