|This is a SAMPLE 10 DAY ITINERARY .... using a 5 day Amazon Cruise on the Delfin III riverboat.
Length of the combined itinerary will differ depending upon your chosen cruise.
Cruises are 4, 5, 7, or 8 days long, so your Itinerary can be 9 to 13 days.
Day 1 - Your Home / Lima
Fly to Lima, Peru. (Depending upon arrival time, possible lodging at the Lima Airport Hotel, the Costa del Sol Wyndham.)
Day 2 - Lima / Iquitos / Nauta / Amazon Riverboat
Arrive to the Amazon city of Iquitos: Make the morning flights from Lima to Iquitos. Our crew will greet you at the airport, then transfer all together in our comfortable private vehicle. We will start you off with a lunchbox as we begin the journey to Nauta.
Arrive to Nauta port: A small riverside town on the banks of the Marañon River and was the first city founded in the department of Loreto. Once we reach Nauta, you will enjoy a VIP greeting at our private port along the shores of the Marañon River where the vessel awaits you.
Embarkation: Aboard the Delfin III, you will be served by our qualified staff who will introduce you to your exquisite and cozy suite, specially equipped with all the amenities for the experienced traveler as yourself. Orthopedic beds, pure cotton sheets, pillows of 100% pure natural latex, cotton bathrobes, air conditioning, and private bathroom with Spanish style hot water showers are all framed with a spacious private terrace we are sure you will enjoy to the fullest.
Happy Hour and orientation: While the Delfin III begins its initial navigation, you will enjoy the most fantastic panoramic views from the elegantly outfitted observation area located on our third deck. Our bartender will be waiting to serve you with an exotic cocktail made with regional fruits and pisco, the beloved national brandy liquor of Peru. Then, your naturalist guide will give you an overview of your journey’s schedule, activities, route, highlights, wildlife and vegetation to keep your eye out for, geographical and historical background, and other useful details.
The third deck features an entertainment center which offers use for film presentations, as well as extensive literature about the area (fauna, flora, etc.) There is also a completely equipped bar so you can test any combination of regional and international liquors and aromas that the bartender will be happy to provide for you to enjoy under the spell of the beautiful Amazonian afternoons and night, and the sweet breeze of the rainforest. Moreover, should you have any doubts or questions, our guides are always fully at your service.

Day 3 -
Samiria River: Our skiffs skim the Samiria River and its tributaries, where an abundance of wildlife hides in the deep rainforest, such as blue and yellow macaws, scarlet macaws, toucans, umbrella birds, monkeys, and river others, capybaras and more. Our naturalists and his expert eye pinpoint all the biodiversity of this region.
Yanayaquillo: After a delicious lunch you will start cruising through the creeks of Yanayaquillo, peeking into different creeks and lagoons. This is one of the best preserved and protected zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Your guide will use his expert eye to pinpoint all the biodiversity of this region. This is also a popular dolphin feeding spot so we won´t be the only one enjoying our happy meal here.

DAY 4 - Amazon Riverboat
Yanayacu Pucate: You will start cruising through the Yanayacu and Pucate Rivers, peeking into different creeks and lagoons. This is one of the best preserved and protected zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Your guide will use his expert eye to pinpoint all the biodiversity of this region. You will even have the opportunity to swim in the jungle river along with the famous pink dolphins!
Nauta Caño: Nauta Caño Creek is known for squirrel and silver back tamarillo monkeys, birds, dolphins, and even sloths! We will skim the riverbanks for small caimans and spiders, as well as insects of all colors, shapes and sizes.

DAY 5 - Amazon Riverboat
Fundo Casual: The walk at Fundo Casual jungle trail will take you deep into the rainforest on “Terra Firma” (nonflooded forest) where your guide will point out the dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. Be sure to keep an attentive eye open for spotting surprises!
San Francisco: Next we will visit the community of San Francisco will include a short skiff ride and jungle walk to meet local villagers who have called Amazonia their home for generations. Here we will visit a market featuring amazing arts and crafts from the local women. Following this visit will be a jungle walk with our guides to search for nocturnal creatures.
Confluence of the 3 Rivers: Better known as the “Unión de los Ríos” we will toast and witness the distinguished colors of the 3 rivers. It is known that the Ucayali River, which in turn confluences with the Marañón River upstream of Iquitos, Peru, to form what countries other than Brazil consider to be the main stem of the Amazon River.
Our vessels all have an open bridge policy, so you are welcome to learn about the navigation systems and spend time with the driving captain at any time. Moreover, should you have any doubts or questions, our guides are always fully at your service. After dinner we invite you to the third deck were you can enjoy stargazing while we cruise in to the depths of the Amazon Rainforest.

DAY 6 - Amazon Riverboat / Iquitos
Disembarkation: With heavy hearts, the staff will wish you farewell as you begin your departure. At the port of Nauta, our ground crew will be waiting to take you by our private vehicle back to the city of Iquitos, about 95 kilometers journey by paved road.
The Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals (ACOBIA): On our way from Nauta back to Iquitos airport, you will visit the Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals (ACOBIA) where you will have the chance to meet baby manatees and learn about these wonderful and docile creatures and why they are on the endangered species list. You will also have the chance to pet and feed these kind manatees. As well, there are also some other animals cared for by the center that have been rescued from capture for the intention of being turned into pets and other threatening conditions. We welcome you to donate to this ambitious organization and education center as you wish.
Transfer to the Hotel Victoria Regia in Iquitos. Afternoon Iquitos City & Market Tour. Meet your guide in the hotel lobby at 15:30 for a tour of approx. 3 hours. The tour will include the Artisan Market in San Juan (a great place to purchase handicrafts); a canoe tour of the Itaya River in Belen (the floating city) and a tour of the Belen Market. The Belem market is a cornucopia of exotic foods and jungle products. Here you will find an entire street of medicinal plant vendors, hot pepper vendors, and a host of other curiosities.
Day 7 - Iquitos / Lima / Cuzco
Transfer to Iquitos airport for flight from Iquitos to Lima with connection to Cuzco at 11,024 feet above sea level. Greeting upon arrival and transfer from the airport to the Hotel Casa Andina San Blas. This three-star hotel is within walking distance of historic churches, museums and the main plaza of Cuzco. Afternoon tour of Cuzco and nearby Inca ruins. Starting with the Plaza de Armas, which has been the center of solemn parades and great assemblies since Inca times; The Cathedral, built on the site where the palace of Inca Viracocha once stood, mixes Spanish Renaissance architecture with beautiful Inca stone-work. Its construction began in 1580 and took approximately one century to complete. Among its many treasures are nearly 400 colonial paintings, including those of the "School of Cusco" a very particular style developed by the blending of Inca and Spanish cultures.

The Twelve Angled Stone, an example of Inca architectural achievement that continues to amaze the world, the twelve corner-angles fit perfectly with all the surrounding stone blocks. The stones were positioned without the use of mortar and have withstood earthquakes of the centuries; The Koricancha Temple, known as the "temple of the supreme Sun God "that colonial chronicles described as having the inner walls covered with gold plates to reflect the sun's rays entering through windows specially positioned for that purpose; and the nearby ruins Sacsayhuaman, a massive fortress made of large stones, including one weighing 125 tons, arranged in a zig-zag shape in three platforms.
Sacsayhuaman presently serves as the location for the Inti Raymi Festival (Festival of the Sun) held every year on June 24 and; Kenko, or Quenco, (zig-zag) another great example of skilled Inca masonry work consisting of a large limestone slab covered with carvings, thought to have been used for ritual sacrifices. Here is also a mysterious cave with large niches, and an amphitheater facing north with 19 niches; Tambomachay, consisting of a beautiful ceremonial bath, popularly called "Bath of the Inca”, formed by four walls linked by stairs and adorned with crystalline waterfalls. Return to Hotel Casa Andina San Blas for overnight. (Breakfast)
Day 8 - Cuzco / Machu Picchu
Early morning transfer to the Cuzco - Poroy train station for the Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes. The Vistadome trains have beautiful panoramic windows offering unsurpassed scenic views and photographic opportunities. Entertainment on board, snacks and hot and cold refreshments are included on the journey. Aguas Calientes is renowned for its natural hot baths, which give the town its name ("hot waters" in Spanish). Upon arrival, transfer by bus to Machu Picchu, afternoon guided tour of the Inca citadel including park entrance fee, bus and lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge.
Machu Picchu is one of the world's most impressive archaeological sites. Built by the Incas on the summit of the mountain of Machu Picchu (Old Peak), it overlooks the deep canyon of the Urubamba River in a semi-tropical area at 8,000 feet above sea level. It was “re-discovered” in 1911 by the American professor Hiram Bingham, although locals knew of it’s existence all along. The building style is "late imperial Inca". It is thought to have been a sanctuary inhabited by high priests and the "Virgins of the Sun". No signs of post-conquest occupation were found. The original entrance to the complex is the Intipunko" (Sun Gate) on the southwestern side of the citadel at the end of the Inca Trail. You can easily take a short walk out from the main ruins to the Sun Gate. Overnight at Hotel of your choice. Overnight at Hotel Inkaterra Machu Picchu. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 9 - Machu Picchu / Cuzco
Morning return (on your own) to the citadel including bus and entrance fee. An early arrival will give you the opportunity to walk out to the Sun Gate to obtain the classic Machu Picchu photograph of the rays of the sun first illuminating the ruins. Your guide the previous day will brief you on what time to arrive to the gate. This morning is also a good opportunity to hike up Huayna Picchu, (Young Peak) (Permit Fee not included.), that is as much a part of the site as the buildings of the citadel. The towering granite peak overlooks Machu Picchu to the north with a steep, well-preserved original Inca path, well worth the one hour climb for an astounding view of the citadel and the entire valley. Note that this hike is not suited for those nervous about heights and sheer drop-offs. Afternoon Vistadome train back to Cuzco - Poroy Station, with private transfer to your Cuzco hotel, the Casa Andina San Blas. (Breakfast)
Day 10 - Cuzco / Lima
An early afternoon transfer from your Cuzco hotel to the airport for your flight back to Lima. (Optional lodging at the Lima Airport Hotel, Costa del Sol Wyndham for the day or overnight.) Make your evening or next day flight from Lima to your home. (Breakfast)
