DAY 1: IQUITOS / LODGE
Fly from Lima to Iquitos on morning or morning flight. We begin our Peruvian jungle adventure at the Iquitos Airport. From here we will journey 60 miles to the town of Nauta on the Marañón River. The trip to Nauta takes about an hour and a half.
From Nauta, we will board Pacaya Samiria Amazon Lodge boats and sail toward the junction of the Ucayali and Marañón Rivers, to observe the beginning of the “true” Amazon River. Along the way, we will have the chance to spot Herons, birds of prey and, depending on the season, other birds along the river banks, such as the Black Skimmer. When we arrive, we will check into the lodge and have lunch.
In the afternoon, we will take a walk around the surrounding jungle, ending up at a lookout point, enabling us to readily observe birds in the canopy of trees. We should be able to see the Paradise Tanager, the Hooded Tanager, the Masked Tanager, the Purple-throated Cotinga, as well as a variety Parrots, including the Yellow-winged Parakeet, the Short-Tailed Parrot, and, if we are lucky, Macaws. Later we will return to the lodge to rest and have dinner. (Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 2: PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE / LODGE
We will cross the Marañón River in our private boats to enter the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve through the Yanayacu river basin and Nauta Caño, areas that are open to tourists and extremely rich in birds (habitat of over 400 species. Along our journey, we will be able to observe different types of birds such as the Amazon Kingfisher, Great Kingfisher, Green and Rufous Kingfisher and Pygmyl Kingfisher, spectacular flocks of Tanagers, Chestnut-Eared Aracari, Red Crested Woodpeckers, Spangled Cotingas, Lemon-throated Barbets, White-eared Jacamar and Blackcapped Donacobios.
We will navigate through lagoons and rivers hidden by the vegetation, we will walk through open paths in the jungle in search of the Horned Screamers, Marsh Sparrow haws, Jabirus, Storks, Pink Spoonbills, Pinta lapwing, the Black-tailed Antbird, Black-necked Red Cotinga, the Grey-cheeked nunlet, the Barbreasted Piculet, the Ivory-Peaked Arasari, the Chest-Striped Woodpecker, the Rufous Hat Antthrush, and the Yellow-billed Jacamar, among others.
Throughout our journey, our expert guides will help us in the acquisition of basic birdwatching skills, such as different bird identification mechanisms and understanding of their behavior patterns.

DAY 4: BIRDWATCHING / LODGE / IQUITOS
After breakfast we will take a boat trip on the Marañón River to Cocha Shiruyacu (depending on season and conditions) to observe various species of herons such as the white heron, the gray heron, the cormorants and others. Then back to the lodge for lunch and packing.
Transfer in our private boats from the lodge to Nauta and by private vehicle from Nauta to the airport or hotel in Iquitos.
