If you are looking for the experience of a lifetime, taking an ecotour with Green Tracks on the Inca Trail is an excellent choice. Our tours will reveal to you not only the surpassing beauty of mountainous Peru, viewed from balconies etched right out of the hillsides, but will also provide you with a profound glimpse into Incan culture and history. Along the trail, you'll be able to see and explore several ancient archaeological ruins built by the Incas.
One of the more recently discovered is Llactapata, which is believed to have been used for religious ceremonies and astronomical observations. There is a two-story observatory and a storehouse that resembles a sun temple at Llactapata. Another Inca site is the Runkurakay, which is sometimes called the "egg hut" because of its oval shape.
The Winay Wayna ruins overlook the Urubamba River for a spectacular view. The name of the ruins means eternal youth, or forever young. Winay Wayna's impressive architecture includes breathtaking stonework, a long, precipitous staircase, baths, fountain structures, buildings and terraces.
The Phuyupatamarca site is sometimes referred to as the "cloud level" town because it literally sits up in the clouds. The ruins consist of two plazas, several buildings, water channels, six ceremonial baths, stairways, bridges and giant observation platforms that hang out like balconies on the side of the cliff. The Inti Punco, also called the Sun Gate, is another significant site. The ruins feature convex terraces notched into the hillside and offer the first view of Machu Picchu from the trail.
